Between 2015 and 2020 I served as campus Vice Provost for Student Success. (I was interim until 2017.) In that role I served as the university’s chief student affairs officer. In addition and in partnership with many others, I fostered campus programs and initiatives to improve student academic success.

To get a sense of the portfolio of that role, you can visit this page.

Between 2013 and 2015 I was Faculty Assistant to Campus Provost / Executive Vice Chancellor, fostering programs and initiatives related to student academic success.

For three years (10-11 through 12-13) I was chair of the department of linguistics.

I was on the campus Committee on Educational Policy for 6 years and chaired it for three years (06-07 through 08-09). The committee does many things, but one thing we did was reform the general education requirements at UCSC. You can see the proposal that led to most of the reforms here. A background document to this proposal and to a proposed disciplinary communication requirement (that also passed), and containing other ideas about general education, can be found here.
